Addressing the aesthetics and comfort of the climbing helmet to increase their use was the focus of this design. A W shaped tightening band allows for users to adjust the helmet without tangling longer hair in the tightening mechanism, which has been relocated to inside the outer shell of the helmet. The grill detail was generated using a voronoi diagram of the geographical locations of climbing routes on the rock formation Arapiles (Victoria, Australia). A shock sensor and resettable transmitter has been installed inside the foam safety layer to allow for remote activation of a climbers EPIRB (distress beacon) during a severe shock to the climbers head. Drastically increasing the injured climbers chances of rescue especially at a time where they may be incapacitated by their injuries.
